Workforce development firm ConnectWork LLC has registered two new rail-related apprenticeships with the state of Maryland.

The programs will provide instruction for future rail-car remediators and rail-car mechanics. While the apprenticeships are open to all rail companies in Maryland, the programs will primarily serve the Baltimore region, specifically in the Tradepoint Atlantic corridor.

The curriculum was drafted in conjunction with Community Colleges of Baltimore. The program includes hands-on experience and classroom instruction from subject matter experts in each occupation, ConnectWork officials said in a press release.

Tactical Cleaning Services, which is one of the supporting employers, plans to incorporate the program as a long-term investment for its Tradepoint location.

Apprentices will receive additional skills training in welding, basic business management, billing repair cards and nondestructive testing. These skills will provide participants with the core competencies needed to gain exposure to other rail careers and migrate into leadership roles, ConnectWork officials said.
