MxV Rail yesterday announced the second construction phase of its PuebloPlex in Pueblo, Colorado, is underway.
The 2023 construction plan calls for implementation of the facility for accelerated service testing (FAST) loop, the curving performance track and the suspension resonance track. The FAST program is a research initiative of the Association of American Railroads, MxV Rail officials said in a press release. MxV Rail is an AAR subsidiary.
FAST will allow for testing components and technology in a controlled, real-world, heavy-axle-load freight-rail setting, MxV Rail officials said. Once construction is completed, the program will kick off in fall on a new 2.8-mile track loop at PuebloPlex.
The curving performance and suspension resonance tracks support vehicle dynamics testing and are considered critical assets for the global rail industry. Ongoing research of the rail vehicle body, suspension and other underbody systems will take place at the suspension resonance track. MxV Rail researchers will modify systems to test overall track performance of freight- and passenger-rail cars at the curving performance track.
Construction on both tracks is expected to complete by year's end.
A minimum 23 AAR-sponsored tests are expected to be installed and monitored this year at the new facility, MxV Rail officials said.
