DART seeks to build second downtown Dallas line

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) recently launched a two-year downtown transit study to review transit options for a Victory Park-to-Deep Ellum corridor.

The agency is considering whether to build a second rail line in the central business district, and improve bus and streetcar service. DART will target areas not currently served directly by rail, and examine costs and economic development opportunities.

A second rail line is necessary because DART’s Green and Orange lines, which are scheduled to begin opening in the next few years, will bring more riders downtown and strain current capacity, according to the agency. DART has set aside $300 million for a new line and might also pursue federal funds.
