ERG Transit Systems recently contracted broadband communications provider DSL.net Inc. to provide broadband services for a smart card fare-collection system ERG is installing for Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.
DSL.net will provide broadband and back-up service at 16 locations, and operate a command center for WMATA’s rail and bus services. Expected to be fully operational late this year, the smart-card system is designed to handle more than 550 transactions annually.
