The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) recently completed a two-volume study on transit-oriented development (TOD)

Entitled "Linking Transit, Communities and Development: Regional Inventory of Transit-Oriented Development," the study includes a first volume that addresses the benefits and barriers of TOD, and recommends strategies to fund and implement the approach in the region to create pedestrian friendly, mixed-use development around transit stations.

The second volume profiles 45 stations in nine Delaware Valley counties along Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, New Jersey Transit, Delaware River Port Authority and Amtrak rail lines to determine "opportunity sites" for future development. DVRPC analyzed zoning, parking, bike storage, vehicular and pedestrian access, patron amenities, current ridership, connecting transit service and current land use around the stations.

The report will help municipalities plan for TOD and provide developers information on opportunities near transit stations, according to DVRPC.
