Denver RTD starts construction on first FasTracks corridor
advertisement
Late last month, the Regional Transportation District of Denver (RTD) launched the first “major construction activity” on the West Corridor light-rail line.
Contractor Denver Transit Construction Group, a joint venture comprising Herzog Contracting Corp. and Stacy & Witbeck Inc., began building the Kipling Bridge, the first of five bridges included on the 12.1-mile corridor.
The West Corridor is the first of the FasTracks rail lines to be constructed. Scheduled to open in 2013, the West Corridor will run between Denver Union Station and the Jefferson County Government Center in Golden, Colo., serving Denver, Lakewood, the Denver Federal Center, Golden and Jefferson County.
FasTracks is a voter-approved, 12-year program to expand rail and bus service in the Denver area. Scheduled to be complete in 2017, the program calls for building six new rail corridors, extending three existing rail corridors and redeveloping Denver Union Station.
