Three years after approving a four-tenths-cent sales tax increase for the Regional Transportation District of Denver’s (RTD) FasTracks program, a majority of Denver-area residents still are happy with their decision.

Seventy-nine percent of polled metro-area residents said approving funding for the 12-year, $6.1 billion transit expansion plan was a “good decision,” and 75 percent claimed they’re confident RTD will complete the plan, according to results from a recently conducted telephone survey.

In addition, 72 percent of the respondents said they have a favorable impression of RTD, 68 percent said they have a favorable impression of FasTracks, and 53 percent said they were familiar with the expansion plans.

The survey was the first to address FasTracks since voters approved the plan in November 2004. Poll results are based on a random sampling of residents throughout the eight counties RTD serves.

Scheduled to be complete in 2017, FasTracks calls for creating six new commuter- and light-rail corridors, extending three existing rail corridors, building 18 miles of bus rapid transit and redeveloping Denver Union Station.
