Deutsche Bahn tabs Alstom to build up to 180 Coradia regional trains
advertisement
Deutsche Bahn AG recently awarded Alstom contracts to design and manufacture up to 180 Coradia LINT-model regional trains. The contracts could total $664.2 million, with deliveries scheduled to conclude by 2011.
Alstom will design/manufacture the diesel-engine trainsets, which will be made up of one, two or three coaches, at its Salzgitter, Germany, plant. The units would complement Deutsche Bahn's existing fleet of 143 Coradia LINTs. The trains can operate at speeds up to 75 mph and accommodate from 70 to 200 passengers. The units also comply with Europe's "Level 3A" regulation, featuring a filter that reduces "soot particle" emissions of soot particles by 95 percent, Alstom said in a July 3 statement.
Since the launch of the first Coradia LINT train in 2000, Alstom has sold 425 trains to public and private operators in Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark.
