Real estate developer Verde Corporate Realty Services recently built 4,283 feet of track and installed a switch in the Verde Santa Teresa Intermodal Park in Santa Teresa, N.M. The track and switch will serve the 118-acre first phase of a planned 1,221-acre industrial park.

When fully built out, the park will feature five rail spurs connected to a Union Pacific Railroad mainline. The park will offer intermodal, transloading, cross-border trailer staging and other services.

Between 2010 and 2014, UP plans to spend $150 million to construct a 934-acre fueling, switching and intermodal yard near the U.S.-Mexico border and within the park, according to Verde.

“The development of Verde's Intermodal Park is a critical step in servicing the increased demand by local and national manufacturers, suppliers and distributors to efficiently transport goods from coast-to-coast and service clients in Mexico,” said Verde Director of Business Development Jay Kleberg in a prepared statement.
