China’s Ministry of Railways recently ordered 300 6,000-horsepower locomotives from Electro-Motive Diesel Inc. (EMD) and Dalian Locomotive Works (DLoco).
The ministry is purchasing the locomotives as part of a program to upgrade the country’s rail network.
EMD and DLoco will begin testing the first locomotives in 2007 and finish delivering them in 2009.
