On Wednesday, ENSCO Inc. officially opened a new rail maintenance facility and offices in south-central Pennsylvania. The facility — which will support ENSCO’s Rail Technology Group — is located in Biglerville and the offices, in Gettysburg.

The maintenance facility will serve ENSCO’s East Coast customers, including Norfolk Southern Railway, CSX Transportation, Amtrak, New Jersey Transit, MTA Long Island Rail Road and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). ENSCO’s rail group, which provides rail-car technologies and systems, plans to use the facility to maintain test cars, as well as access a nearby 25-mile test track owned by the Gettysburg and Northern Railroad.

“ENSCO is proud to support the FRA and all of our customers in their efforts to maintain safe and technically advanced railroads,” said ATE Division Manager Kevin Kesler in a prepared statement. “Having a maintenance facility conveniently located just 100 miles from northern Virginia greatly increases the capabilities of [our] rail technology group.”

Under a research and development contract, ENSCO is helping the FRA incorporate new technology into maintaining safe tracks.
