Green Plains Renewable Energy Inc. recently renovated a rail spur between Red Oak and Shenandoah, Iowa, on a BNSF Railway Co. line. The Class I will use the spur to serve a 50 million-gallon ethanol plant Green Plains is building in Shenandoah. The facility is expected to be completed in mid-2007.

In May, Green Plains purchased 68 acres in Superior, Iowa, to secure a site for a second 50 million-gallon ethanol plant in the state. The company also reached an agreement with Union Pacific Railroad to serve the Superior facility, which will be completed in late 2007.
