Last month, the third annual European Mobility@Transport Summit in Utrecht, The Netherlands, attracted 129 representatives from European public transportation operators.

The summit was organized by @Anyplace Access, a consortium comprising Capgemini, Cisco, Intel Aptilo and Appear Networks, and sponsored by Dutch Rail and the ContactLess User Board.

The conference provided a forum for transit agencies to share best practices for improving operations, security and customer service using wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) technology. The summit included transit operator case studies showing Wi-Fi technology’s impact on business strategies, employees and passengers.

In addition, participants visited Utrecht Central Station for a live demonstration of Appear Networks’ Wi-Fi deployment on 10,000 handheld computers and traveled on a new wireless-connected train.
