FECI appoints exec to help boost intermodal business

Florida East Coast Industries June 20 named Michael Blackwell vice president-intermodal sales and marketing as part of the company's realignment of its intermodal service.
Blackwell, who has more than 30 years' experience as a transportation purchaser for several shippers, will report to Florida East Coast Railway (FECR) President John McPherson and Florida Express Carriers Inc. (FLX) President Tom Connard, and will be responsible for intermodal sales and marketing for both FECI companies.
FECI plans to grow its southeastern intermodal business — which accounts for 40 percent of the company's revenue — by integrating FLX's motor-carrier speed with FECR's scheduled service into south Florida.
FECR's track parallels Interstate 95 for more than 350 miles, which enables FECI to attract truck business.
"Intermodal business is there," said McPherson in a prepared statement. "Increasing FECI's market share is simply a matter of finding the right package that includes premium service at reasonable rates, and then letting the world know that we have a great product."
Blackwell previously served as CHEP USA vice president of logistics, asset recovery and planning. He's also held transportation and logistics positions with Georgia-Pacific Corp. and Boise Cascade Corp.
