FECR ready to slap on CANAC's BELTPACKs
advertisement
Florida East Coast Railway (FECR) Oct. 16 purchased five BELTPACK® locomotive remote-control (LRC) systems from CANAC Inc.
BELTPACK is a computer-based remote-control system designed to enable qualified operators to safely move a locomotive via a radio link while either onboard the locomotive or standing near the track.
The systems would include OCU IIe, CANAC's recently introduced smaller, lighter and more ergonomic version of BELTPACK's portable Operator Control Unit, designed to improve operator comfort and ease of use.
"With the recent Federal Railroad Administration issuance of guidelines for the operation of remote control locomotives, we wanted to be one of the first major railroads in this country to adopt LRC technology," said FECR President and Chief Operating Officer John McPherson in a prepared statement.
