Jo Strang can remove the word “acting” from her Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) title. The agency recently named her associate administrator for safety.

Acting associate administrator for safety since Oct. 30, 2005, Strang will be responsible for overseeing FRA inspectors, rail safety research and regulation development. She reports to FRA Administrator Joseph Boardman.

Strang previously served as the FRA’s deputy associate administrator for railroad development, acting head of the Office of Research and Development, and deputy regional administrator in Chicago. She also was associate director for the National Transportation Safety Board’s Office of Railroad, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials, where she was responsible for railroad and transit accident investigations.

“Jo is an effective leader committed to improving all aspects of rail safety [and] her many talents will help the FRA accomplish its rail safety mission,” said Boardman in a prepared statement.
