FRA provides grant for stress disorder program development
advertisement
The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) recently awarded a $50,000 grant to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) to design a program that will help mitigate the onset and development of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Acute Distress Disorder for train crews and other railroad personnel.
Train crew members frequently suffer the disorders after being involved in grade crossing collisions or trespassing incidents involving pedestrians — the two leading causes of fatalities in the rail industry, according to the FRA.
NFFF plans to work with research and work practice experts, and rail labor union representatives and railroad managers to develop a baseline intervention plan targeted for railroads, unions and other rail industry constituents.
