FRA publishes final rule on concrete ties
advertisement
On April 1, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) published a final rule governing concrete crossties in the Federal Register.
The FRA is amending federal track safety standards to improve the safety of railroad operations over track constructed with concrete ties. To take effect on July 1, the final rule specifies requirements for “effective” concrete ties, as well as for concrete-tie fastening systems and automated inspections of track constructed with concrete ties. For example, the new rule specifies a testing frequency for track featuring concrete ties using a geometry car or similar automated inspection equipment.
