FRA seeks state applications for small railroad infrastructure repair grants

Beginning Nov. 16, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) will accept applications from states for $20 million in federal grants to help regionals and short lines fund repairs to infrastructure damaged by severe weather events.

Under the Railroad Rehabilitation and Repair Grant Program, the FRA will provide funds that can be used to repair and rehabilitate Class II and Class III infrastructure damaged by hurricanes, floods and similar weather events in counties declared disaster areas by President Bush from Jan. 1 to Nov. 6.

For example, proceeds can be used to restore rights of way, repair bridges or rehabilitate signals.
