FTA anticipates grant agreement for Sound Transit light-rail extension

The Federal Transit Administration expects to approve an $813 million Full Funding Grant Agreement (FFGA) for Sound Transit’s University Link light-rail extension following a 60-day congressional review.
Running between downtown Seattle and the University of Washington, the 3.15-mile underground University Link will serve as an extension of the Link light-rail line scheduled to open next year between downtown and Sea-Tac International Airport. Scheduled to open in 2016, the University Link is expected to attract more than 70,000 riders daily.
Sound Transit will match FFGA proceeds with existing revenue. Earlier this month, Seattle-area voters approved Proposition 1, a ballot measure that calls for raising the sales tax to fund other Sound Transit projects, including a 12.5-mile extension of the University Link line north to Lynnwood.
