advertisement
The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will receive $6.5 million in federal funding during fiscal-year 2006 to continue work on the Bay Area Rapid Transit extension to the Silicon Valley.
To be allocated as part of the FY2006 Transportation and Treasury Appropriations bill passed by Congress last week, the funds will enable VTA to continue preliminary engineering for the project.
Scheduled to begin construction and be complete in 2015, the 16.3-mile, seven station extension would operate between the future BART Warm Springs Station in Fremont, Calif., and the cities of Milpitas, San Jose and Santa Clara. By 2030, the line is expected to carry 111,500 passengers daily.
