Finnish railway to improve onboard information systems
advertisement
Finland’s Helsinki City Transport (HKL) recently began using Echelon Corp.’s LonWorks® networking platform to improve communication systems on trains.
HKL contracted Danish supplier SA ViewCom to design and supply a modified version of its LonWorks-based PILON passenger information system. During the $9.8 million refurbishment project, SA ViewCom will install passenger emergency units and driver control panels on all HKL trains, enabling the agency to control automated passenger announcements, and provide global positioning system-based display messages and real-time train schedule data.
Paris Metro, MTA New York City Transit, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Bay Area Rapid Transit, Amtrak, German Federal Railroads and Swiss National Railroads also use LonWorks’ platform.
