Finnish track-managing firm to boot up more integrated IT system

Finnish company VR-Track Ltd. recently purchased ESRI's geographic information system (GIS) software to incorporate into a new information-management system.
VR-Track plans to integrate ESRI's ArcGIS family of software with an information-management solution developed by Finnish information-technology provider Novo to enhance planning capabilities, improve operability, reduce overall life-cycle costs and offer users a more flexible set of IT tools, according to a statement prepared June 12.
The system would enable VR-Track to ensure that all departments involved in groundwork planning to rail geometry, to the planning of electrification and signaling systems, work from the same regularly updated and geographic-referenced database.
VR-Track is an arm of VR Group, which is responsible for track planning, construction and maintenance for Finnish Rail Administration (manager of the Finnish government's rail network).
