Fitzmaurice named NMB chairman
advertisement
Edward Fitzmaurice Jr. is the National Mediation Board's (NMB) new chairman.
Annually, the three-member NMB board — the current group comprises Fitzmaurice, Francis Duggan and Harry Hoglander — designates one of the three members to serve as board chair. Effective July 1, Fitzmaurice replaced Duggan as chairman. Duggan, who served as chair since Jan. 1, 2001, has been on the board since November 1999.
An NMB board member since August 2002, Fitzmaurice is a Villanova University graduate who served four and a half years as an Officer of Marines. Designated a Naval Aviator, he served in the Dominican Republic and Vietnam as a Captain and Aircraft Commander, receiving several decorations including the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and 11 strike/flight Air Medals, the Presidential Unit Citation and Navy Unit Commendation.
Upon release from active duty, Fitzmaurice became a pilot for Braniff International, serving as a domestic and international captain, co-pilot and flight engineer.
NMB is an independent federal agency established by the Railway Labor Act, which governs airline and railroad labor-management relations. NMB board members serve three-year terms; no more than two members may be from the same political party.
