Florida East Coast Railway L.L.C. (FECR) and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. recently received Argus Media’s Win-Win Award. Launched in 1998 by Argus Rail Business, the award recognizes a railroad and shipper that develop a partnership that leads to better service and rates.

Argus Media honored FECR and Wal-Mart for developing a container delivery system for the retailer’s new regional distribution center in Fort Pierce, Fla.

FECR developed a “valet” service for Wal-Mart under which the 351-mile regional picks up containers at its Jacksonville, Fla., intermodal ramp and moves the equipment about 240 miles to Fort Pierce. The railroad then provides drayage service to deliver the containers to Wal-Mart’s facility. FECR also picks up empty containers and moves them to Jacksonville.

“FECR benefits from significant new business and a growing relationship with one of the nation’s largest companies; Wal-Mart benefits from scheduled deliveries so it can schedule employees to handle the incoming traffic more efficiently,” Argus Media officials said in a prepared statement.
