The Manatee County Port Authority’s board recently approved $735,660 in additional state funding for a perishable/cold storage cargo transfer facility at Port Manatee in Palmetto, Fla.

The Florida Department of Transportation requires the port authority to adopt a resolution that approves grants for projects funded as part of a master joint participation agreement.

The authority’s board also approved the execution of a Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery II (TIGER II) grant that will enable the federal funds to be released to the port. Last month, the port was awarded a $9 million TIGER II grant to help fund the construction of a 32-acre container terminal and expansion of cargo storage capacity.

Port Manatee operates a switching railroad that connects with a CSX Transportation line.
