Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The U.S. Trade and Development Agency recently awarded a $291,664 grant to the Russian Federal Agency of Railway Transport to facilitate the “harmonization” of selected U.S. and Russian rail-car and component standards, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR).
The Russian agency is seeking additional technology and sourcing options to help revitalize the national railroad’s rail-car fleet.
Harmonization standards would enable U.S. suppliers interested in selling car components to Russia to test and certify products at the AAR’s Transportation Technology Center Inc. in Pueblo, Colo. Product testing and certification in Russia can be expensive and time consuming for foreign companies, AAR officials said in a news item on the association’s Web site.
