On June 5, Edward Moyers Jr., the former top executive at MidSouth Rail Corp., Illinois Central Railroad and Southern Pacific Railway, died in Naples, Fla. He was 77.

In 1985, Moyers became president and chief executive officer of MidSouth Rail Corp. in Jackson, Miss. Four years later, Moyers was named president and CEO of Illinois Central, where he served until 1993. Following a brief retirement, he became president and CEO of Southern Pacific Railway.

After retiring in 1995, Moyers remained active in the railroad industry by overseeing the management and construction of two Brazilian rail projects. He also served on the boards of Millsaps College and Deposit Guaranty National Bank, and chaired Louisiana Tech’s Centennial Development Program.

Moyers is survived by his wife, Helen, a son and daughter, and four grandchildren.
