The French National Railways (SNCF) recently awarded a $474 million contract to Bombardier Transportation to supply 100 high-capacity trains.

Traveling at maximum speeds of 100 mph, the Autorail Grande Capacité (AGC) trains can carry between 160 and 220 passengers. The low-floor vehicles feature wide carbodies and inter-circulation gangways, and can run on either diesel fuel, electricity or a combination of the two.

To be delivered between December 2007 and February 2009, the AGCs will be manufactured at Bombardier’s Crespin facility in France’s Valenciennes region. Since 2001, SNCF has ordered 379 AGC trains from Bombardier.
