French national railway Société Nationale de Chamins de Fer (SNCF) recently placed two orders with ALSTOM to build TGV Duplex trainsets and power cars. The contracts total $661.9 million.

ALSTOM will provide 24 TGV Duplex trainsets and four trainsets without power cars, which will be coupled with power cars from SNCF’s existing TGV Réseau fleet. The order is part of an original agreement SNCF signed in 2000 for 82 TGV Duplex trainsets.

The railway will operate the trains on the TGV Méditerranée line between Paris and Marseille.

ALSTOM also will supply eight power cars for SNCF’s TGV Est network. Scheduled to be complete in 2007, the line will run between Paris, eastern France, southwest Germany, Luxemburg and Switzerland.

SNCF will couple the cars with renovated TGV Réseau trainsets. The order is part of an agreement signed in 2003 for 30 power cars.
