During the third quarter, GE Transportation Systems (GETS) obtained locomotive, maintenance service and signaling contracts totaling $1 billion, including nearly $500 million in orders for several hundred 4,000-horsepower DASH-9 locomotives.

The supplier also recently acquired certain assets from Railway Technologies Inc., which GETS plans to use to develop locomotive remote-control products, according to General Electric Co.'s quarterly financial results released Oct. 11.

In addition, subsidiary GETS Global Signaling recently landed a $63 million contract from Maryland Transit Administration to supply a state-of-the-art wayside and car-borne signaling and field communications system.
