European rolling stock lessor CBRail Ltd. recently contracted GE - Transportation to modernize 20 M62/ST44 diesel electric locomotives in Poland. The contract includes an option for 10 additional locomotives.

GE will retrofit each locomotive with a new “GE Power” module containing a FDL 12 engine, alternator and auxiliary equipment. The company also will upgrade traction motors.

GE expects to deliver the upgraded units between May 2007 and January 2008.

A joint venture between Babcock & Brown and Bank of Scotland Corporate Europe, CBRail is modernizing the power to boost reliability and cut operating costs, the lessor said.
