In about two weeks, James Gardner will end his seven-year run as president of Railinc Corp. Yesterday, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) announced Gardner will retire as president of the association’s subsidiary on April 7. Railinc’s board named E. Allen West acting president.

“Jim has worked hard to meet the challenges of maintaining and enhancing the unique and critical role that Railinc serves in providing information technology services to North American railroads," said Railinc Chairman Allen Borak in a prepared statement.

Adds AAR President and Chief Executive Officer Edward Hamberger: “Under Jim’s leadership, Railinc has been an invaluable resource for the AAR in developing programs to help the railroad industry improve efficiency and enhance customer service.”

Currently Railinc’s vice president of business services, West previously served as VP of information technology (IT). He has more than 20 years’ IT experience, including related stints at Sea-Land Service Inc., Norfolk Southern Corp. and Tenneco Inc.
