The Gavilon Group L.L.C. recently announced plans to build a 40,000-ton fertilizer storage facility in Jamestown, N.D., adjacent to its rail-served grain elevator.

The elevator features a high-speed, high-capacity rail-car loading facility that can accommodate 110-car unit trains.

To be completed in spring 2010, the new fertilizer storage facility will leverage existing rail and highway infrastructure to expand wholesale fertilizer distribution in North Dakota, Gavilon Group said. BNSF Railway Co.’s lines run through Jamestown.

The facility will be designed to blend primary fertilizer inputs nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.
