Georgia short line to serve new Southeast Railcar shop

Southeast Railcar and Locomotive Services Inc. last week opened a new car repair and maintenance facility located between Plains and Americus, Ga., on the Heart of Georgia Railroad's (HOG) line.

The shop can receive cars via a direct interchange between the 200-mile short line and either CSX Transportation or Norfolk Southern Corp., saving car owners multiple moves to reach the facility, Southeast Railcar officials said in a prepared statement.

"I feel that the location on the HOG will allow our company to provide outstanding service to car owners operating fleets in the Southeast," said Frank Wilkerson, who recently joined Southeast Railcar as vice president and general manager after serving as Fitzgerald Railcar Services Co.'s GM.

Owned by Atlantic Western Transportation Inc., the HOG also interchanges with the Georgia Southwestern Railroad in Americus and Georgia Central Railway in Vidalia, Ga.
