Georgia Southwestern Railroad (GSWR) recently implemented RAILINC Corp.'s Command, a component of RAILINC's RailSync™ suite of Web-based operational management tools designed for short lines and regionals.
GSWR plans to use Command to better manage its railroad by marrying operational data and customer information.
"We view Command as an important element in [our] ongoing efforts to reduce operating costs, while having the scalability necessary for future growth," said GSWR Vice President Dave Smoot in a statement prepared April 17.
The 359-mile short line is the 51st small road to use Command, which RAILINC currently markets as a command-terminal server version hosted on a railroad's computer system. Command — used on all of RailAmerica Inc.'s 50 short lines and regionals — will be available as a Web-based tool sometime in first-quarter 2003, says RAILINC spokeswoman Natalie Burgin. (RailAmerica in late March sold GSWR to the state of Georgia).
Command is designed to support small roads' yard, train and industrial operations by providing Electronic Data Interchange capabilities, internal event reporting, standing track inventory and TRAINII® messaging features. RAILINC officials believe Command can help improve short lines' and regionals' decision making, thereby reducing business-process complexity and cost.
RailSync — which RAILINC launched in October — also includes Concur, an integrated suite of Internet applications designed to enable small roads to electronically settle bills by participating in the rail industry's Interline Settlement System, and enhance rate and revenue management. Currently in certification testing, Concur might be marketed by RAILINC later this year, says Burgin.
