Bombardier Transportation Inc. and consortium partner ALSTOM Transport recently received a $402 million order from Germany’s Deutsche Bahn for 78 ET 422 four-section suburban railway multiple units. The contract includes an option for 72 additional trains.
Under its $262 million share of the contract, Bombardier will manufacture electrical equipment and bogies, and assemble 27 trains. ALSTOM will supply front bogies and carbodies, and assemble 51 trains.
To operate on Deutsche Bahn’s North Rhine-Westphalia line at speeds up to 87 mph, the trains feature electrical swiveling-sliding doors, air conditioning units and passenger information systems.
The trains are scheduled to be delivered between March 2008 and October 2010.
