The Global Ukraine Rail Task Force, in collaboration with the Trade Union of Railwaymen and Transport Construction Workers of Ukraine, recently helped deliver 7,500 food packages to Ukrainian Railways (UZ).
Purchased with corporate and individual donations collected in fall 2023, the food packages were delivered to rail workers and their families in the war zone in Ukraine.
"As colleagues in the global rail sector, we stand in solidarity with our counterparts in Ukraine as they face the unjust aggression from Russia," said Ray Chambers, vice chair of the task force, in a press release.
The task force was formed in the first months after Russia attacked Ukraine over two years ago. The task force has helped coordinate some of the humanitarian efforts to help UZ workers and Ukraine. Currently, the group is running a donation campaign to support the families of injured or killed railway workers.
Fundraising continues for donations needed to purchase more food packages, first-aid kits for trains, protective equipment and other assistance, task force officials said. The group’s verified charity partner is United Way/WE AID.
