Transit Systems Development L.L.C. recently awarded a $336.6 million contract to a Granite Construction Inc. and Bombardier Transit Corp. consortium to design, build and provide vehicles for a 2.3-mile extension of the Las Vegas Resort Corridor Monorail.

The Phase II project will extend the system to downtown Las Vegas. Granite will be responsible for designing and building the civil infrastructure, including the guideway, stations and a maintenance facility. Bombardier will design, furnish and install the monorail vehicles and vehicle operating systems.

A notice to proceed is expected in mid-2004 and be complete in mid-2007.

Granite and Bombardier currently are building Phase I of the project — a four-mile monorail system in Las Vegas with five new stations and two renovated stations. The system will consist of nine four-car trains operating between eight resort properties and the Las Vegas Convention Center.
