Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
In 2005, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) posted ridership growth for the third-straight year. The agency registered 57 million passengers on its rail and bus system, a 3 percent increase compared with 2004.
For the first time in RTA history, rail ridership has risen in nine consecutive quarters. Heavy-rail ridership grew 8 percent and light-rail ridership, 1.1 percent.
RTA officials attribute the increase to high gas prices, an upgraded fleet and service improvements.
