Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
On Jan. 15, Michael Grisso began serving as executive director of the Alliance for Rail Competition (ARC), a shippers' lobbying group that aims to increase freight-rail competition, and improve rates and service through legislative change. He succeeds Diane Duff, who resigned Dec. 17 "to pursue other goals," according to a prepared statement.
Former principal of The Capitol Hill Group, Grisso has more than 20 years' experience dealing with Washington legislative issues. For seven years, he served as senior policy advisor to former House Speaker Jim Wright.
"He has learned the intricacies of rail competition policy debate both on and off the Hill," said ARC Chairman Terry Whiteside, adding that Grisso is well-positioned to build congressional support for rail-competition issues through direct and grassroots lobbying efforts.
Duff believed the time was right for her to move on.
"I know ARC will do well under Mike’s direction," she said. "With his political experience and his history with ARC, Mike has what is needed to get the job done."
Whiteside praised Diane for her accomplishments on behalf of ARC during the past five years.
"Her involvement has allowed ARC to create momentum behind a policy debate that was at a near standstill to a point where we feel poised to succeed," he said.
