Harsco Track Technologies has landed its first rail maintenance equipment order in Brazil in more than a decade. Brazilian mining company Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) recently contracted Harsco to supply one mainline rail grinder.
CVRD, which owns more than 5,000 miles of railroad tracks, plans to use the wide gauge, 96-stone grinder to maintain the 550-mile Carajas line used to transport iron ore and other materials to Sao Luis’ port. Harsco will deliver the machine in early 2008, then provide grinder maintenance services for two years.
