Harsco supplies switch, crossing grinders to China's Guangzhou Metro System
advertisement
Harsco Track Technologies (HTT) recently received orders totaling more than $5 million from China's Guangzhou Metro System for switch and crossing grinders — the supplier's first Chinese order outside the country's central Ministry of Railways.
China is modernizing and expanding its railway system, which includes installing 4,300 miles of track in areas without rail service and adding rail in heavy traffic areas to ease congestion.
The switch and crossing grinders are designed to recontour rail surfaces on switches and crossing tracks. The grinders include onboard computers and up to 20 controllable grinding heads or stones that reshape rail to precise specifications.
HTT already has supplied track-maintenance equipment to China — one of the supplier's largest international markets — including track-construction trains and mainline production rail grinders.
