Yesterday, the House Appropriations Committee approved its fiscal-year 2007 transportation appropriations bill, but rejected two amendments that would have increased Amtrak funding from the $900 million proposed by the Bush Administration, according tot he National Association of Railroad Passengers.
John Olver (D-Mass.) had proposed an amendment that would have increased funding for the national intercity passenger railroad by $400 million and John Sweeny (R-N.Y.) proposed one that would have provided an additional $291 million.
The appropriations bill now will be considered by the full House.
