On Wednesday, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee reintroduced its Transportation Equity Act of the 21st Century (TEA-21) reauthorization proposal, according to the American Public Transportation Association.

Introduced by committee Chairman Don Young (R-Alaska), and Reps. James Oberstar (D-Minn.), Tom Petri (R-Wis.) and Peter DeFazio (D-Oregon), the $284 billion "Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy of Users" (H.R. 3) would include $52.35 billion for transit programs during the next six years.

The committee originally introduced the legislation in March 2004. Since it expired in September 2003, TEA-21 has been extended six times. The most recent extension expires May 31.
