Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Last week, the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas (METRO) announced it will begin negotiating a contract with construction management firm Washington Group International to design and build four transit corridors as part of the Phase 2 METRO Solutions plan.
The project calls for building new light-rail lines in north and southeast Houston, Uptown and the city’s East End.
Once negotiations are complete, METRO expects Washington Group to complete program development and pre-construction activities between March and September. In fall, METRO plans to award a second contract and fall for final design and construction. The contract value could total $1 billion.
