Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas (METRO) recently approved METRORail Phase II — part of the METRO Solutions Transit System Plan. Phase II would expand the agency’s 7.5-mile light-rail system, which is scheduled to open in January 2005.
The 39.7-mile extension would include service to Uptown/Galleria, Inner Katy, Westpark, East End, Magnolia, Gulfgate, Sunnyside, and Houston and Texas Southern universities.
The plan requires METRO to distribute 25 percent of its sales tax proceeds to member governments through 2014.
