The Federal Transit Administration recently awarded a $1.96 million grant to the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas (METRO) to conduct environmental impact studies for proposed light-rail extensions in 10 corridors.
In November 2003, voters approved a referendum for the METRO Solutions Transit System plan, which calls for adding 72 miles of light rail to the current 7.5-mile system that opened a year ago.
