Houston METRO restricts rail platforms to ticket holders

Last week, the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas (METRO) board approved a plan to designate METRORail platforms “paid fare zones,” restricting the areas between ticket vending machines to passengers with tickets.

Scheduled to take effect immediately, the measure will enable METRO police to improve security and crowd management, and conduct fare inspections prior to passengers boarding trains.
