Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
On March 30 and April 1, Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas (METRO) officials plan to host open house meetings to discuss a proposed Southeast-Universities-Hobby light-rail extension.
Included in Phase II of the METRO Solutions Transit System plan, the extension was approved by Houston-area voters in November 2003. The first phase of the extension — a 7.1-mile line traveling from downtown to Griggs/Loop 610 — is expected to begin construction in 2007 and be complete in 2010.
On Jan. 1, METRO opened its 7.5-mile starter line, which operates between the University of Houston-Downtown and Reliant Park.
